Position Overview

Engstrom Lee seeks an associate attorney to join our plaintiffs’ class action practice. The associate will play a key role in our growing consumer protection practice and complex litigation and will be instrumental in researching legal theories, potential claims and defenses, identifying stakeholders and partners, among other important work. The associate will also work on active ERISA class actions involving retirement plan misconduct. Our work is creative, complex, intellectually rigorous, and makes a meaningful impact on the livelihoods of our clients. 

This role is well-suited to a lawyer who is analytically rigorous, self-directed, and motivated by mission-driven plaintiffs’-side litigation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct sophisticated legal research and draft high-quality memoranda, complaints, motions, briefs, and other litigation filings under the supervision of partners.

  • Support all phases of complex class action litigation, including claim development, case investigation, pleadings, discovery, expert development, dispositive motion practice, and trials.

  • Assist with the development of new cases through factual investigation, legal analysis, and strategic evaluation.

  • Contribute to the firm’s growing consumer protection practice, including class actions involving predatory lending and deceptive practices.

  • Work collaboratively with partners and litigation teams on ERISA class actions and related retirement plan litigation.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to at least one U.S. state bar (Minnesota admission or eligibility preferred) 

  • At least three years of legal experience.

  • Excellent legal research, analytical, and writing abilities.

  • Strong judgment, intellectual curiosity, and attention to detail. Ability to manage an active caseload and juggle multiple priorities. 

  • Commitment to plaintiffs’ class action litigation and to holding corporations accountable.

  • Ability to work independently and proactively in a remote-first environment while collaborating effectively with a small litigation team.

  • Prior experience with complex litigation, class actions, or ERISA litigation is preferred but not required.

  • Willingness to travel nationwide when needed for litigation and conferences. 

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary of at least $110,000, depending on experience. Candidates with substantially more experience will be compensated accordingly and are strongly encouraged to apply.
